'Peanuts'와 영어공부 #24 : A letter to Charlie Brown

Patty는 야구를 정말 사랑하는 Charile의 친구입니다. 그런데 Patty가 뭔가 오해를 하게 된 것 같아요. 무슨 일이 벌어지는 걸까요? 함께 보시죠.

Patty : The old pictures mound, you and I have spent a lot of time up here. I love baseball. I could play baseball every day of my life. 

Patty : 추억이 깃든 마운드네, 너와 내가 여기서 많은 시간을 보냈지. 난 야구를 사랑해. 난 내 인생의 매일을 야구를 하며 보낼 수도 있어.
Charlie : You're an unusual girl.

Charlie : 넌 참 특이한 애야.

Patty : Let's say it's the last half of the ninth inning, two outs, and you're up to bat, Chuck. Even though you're my friend, I still have to try and strike you out, right? 

마지막 9회 말 투아웃이라고 치자, 넌 타석에 있어, Chuck.

아무리 네가 내 친구라고 난 너를 strik out 시키기 위해 노력해야 해, 그렇지?

Charlie : Of course, there's no other way to play the game.

Charlie : 물론이지, 그 방법 외에는 경기를 할 방법이 없어.
Patty : You kind of like me, don't you, Chip? I worked out the schedule for our teams. Take a look and tell me what you think. You touch my hand, Chuck, you sly dog. 

나를 좀 좋아하나 보네, 그렇지 않니 Chip? 우리 팀을 위해 내가 계획을 짜봤어. 보고 어떤지 말해줘. 내 손을 만진거야 Chuck? 음흉하기는.
I have a problem, Linus. I think Chuck likes me. He's nice and all that, but how could I flip over someone like Chuck? I could strike him out in three straight pitches.

난 고민이 있어, Linus. 아무래도 Chuck이 날 좋아하는 것 같아. 그애는 그만큼 좋은 애지만, 어떻게 Chuck같은 애의 마음을 뒤집을수 있을까? 난 세번의 직구 만으로도 그를 아웃 시킬 수 있어.
If a person likes another person, but that other person doesn't like the first person as much as the first person likes the other person, what should the other person do? 

만약 어떤 사람이 다른 사람을 좋아하지만, 그 다른 사람은 첫 번째 사람이 다른 사람을 좋아하는 것만큼 첫 번째 사람을 좋아하지 않는다면, 다른 사람은 어떻게 해야할까?
Linus : Say that again? 

Linus : 다시 말 해 줄래?
Patty : If a person likes another person, but that other person doesn't like the first person as much as the first person likes the other person, what should the other person do? 

Patty : 만약 어떤 사람이 다른 사람을 좋아하지만, 그 다른 사람은 첫 번째 사람이 다른 사람을 좋아하는 것만큼 첫 번째 사람을 좋아하지 않는다면, 다른 사람은 어떻게 해야하냐고?
Linus : I don't know. 

Linus : 모르겠어.

Patty : I don't want to hurt Chuck, but how can I possibly look him in the eye and tell him I don't like him as much as he likes me?

Patty: Chuck에게 상처 주고 싶진 않지만, 어떻게 해야 그 애의 눈을 보고 그 애가 나를 좋아하는 만큼 난 좋아하지 않는다고 말할 수 있을까?
Linus : Write him a "Dear Chuck" letter.

Linus :  "친애하는 Chuck에게"하고 편지를 써봐

Patty : Why is... You're a genius, beep. 

Patty : 어째서... 넌 천재야, 삐
Charlie : Look, look, I got a letter. I think it's from The Little Red-Haired Girl.

이것 봐, 나 편지 받았어. 아무래도 빨간 머리 소녀에게 온 것 같아,
Patty : What?

Patty : 뭐라고?

Charlie : "I know you like me, and in my own way, I like you too." Did you hear that? She likes me too!

"네가 날 좋아하는 걸 알아, 너와 같은 방식은 아니지만 나도 널 좋아해" 들었어? 그애도 날 좋아한데! 

Patty : That's not from the Little Red-Haired Girl, Chuck. It's from me. You like me? 

Patty : 그건 빨간 머리 소녀가 보낸 게 아니야 Chuck. 내가 보낸 거야. 나 좋아하잖아?

Charlie : I do.

Charlie : 좋아하지.
Patty : How can you be so stupid, Chuck? Your heart is breaking and you don't even know it. 

어쩜 그렇게 멍청할 수 있어, Chuck? 내 마음에 상처를 주고 심지어 넌 그 조차도 몰라.
Charlie : I don't. 

Charlie : 모르겠어,
Patty : By golly, if I ever hit a deep drive into center field and I ran first base, and I rounded second base and I rounded third base, and I go tearing into home like a runaway freight, you better not be in my way. 

세상에, 내가 중견수 쪽으로 깊게 쳐서 1루를 달리고, 2루를 돌고, 3루를 돌고, 폭주하는 화물처럼 집으로 돌진한다면, 넌  내 길을 막지 않는 게 좋을 거야.
Charlie : That's the longest threat I've ever heard.

Charlie : 내가 들어본 중에 제일 긴 위협이었어.
