어떻게든 : somehow, one way or another

오늘은 “어떻게든”이라는 말을 영어로 어떻게 표현하면 좋을지 알아보겠습니다.

첫번째는 “one way or another(the other)”라는 표현 입니다. 직역하면 ‘이 길(방법) 아니면 다른 길(방법)’인데요.

2가지의 방식 혹은 그 이상의 방식 중에서 “어떤 것이든 (선택해서 ~을 하겠다)” 즉, “어떻게든 (~하겠다)”, 또는 “이렇든 저렇든”이라는 의미를 나타낼 때 쓰는 말 입니다.

두 번째는 “somehow”라는 표현 인데요. 이 “somehow”는 두가지 뜻이 있어요.

하나는 “어떻게든 = one way or another” 또 다른 하나는 “왠지 (모르게)”라는 뜻이 있는데요.

두가지의 뜻이 사뭇 다르기 때문에 해석이 까다롭게 느껴질 수 있는데요.

“왠지”로 해석되는 경우 ‘feel’, ‘look’, ‘seem’이런 동사들과 조합이 자주 보이고,

“어떻게든”이라고 해석 되는 경우에는 ‘will’, ‘must’, ‘have to’, ‘manage to’ 처럼’ 뭔가 해야만 하는 상황에서 자주 쓰인다는 것을 기억 하면 도움이 될 것 같아요.
