'Friends'와 영어공부 # 31 : Rachel and Mindy Come Clean to Each Other

 

Barry와의 결혼식날 Rachel은 그를 사랑하지 않는 다는 것을 깨닫고 도망쳐 나왔는데요. 

그 후 Barry는 Rachel의 베프였던 Mindy와 약혼을 합니다. 

그리고 시간이 지나 Barry와 재회한 Rachel은 좋았던 감정과 익숙함에 이끌려 Barry와 데이트를 하게 됩니다.

 

 

 

Mindy : I think Barry is seeing someone in the city.

Mindy : 아무래도 Barry가 도시에 있는 누굴 만나는 것 같아.

Rachel : Um, what- what would make you think that?

Rachel : 음, 왜.. 왜 그렇게 생각 하는데?

Mindy : Well, ever since we announced the engagement, he's been acting really weird, and then last night, he came home smelling like Chanel.

Mindy : 음, 우리가 약혼을 발표한 이후로 계속, 그 사람이 이상하게 행동 했어, 그리고 어젯밤에는 Chanel향을 풍기며 집에 왔어. 

Rachel : Really. Mindy, if it'll make you feel any better, when I was engaged to him he went through a whole weird thing too.

Rachel : Mindy, 진심이야. 네 기분이 조금이라도 나아질지는 모르겠지만, 내가 Barry와 약혼했을 때도 그는 정말 이상하게 굴었었어.

Mindy : Oh God! You see, that's what I was afraid of!

Mindy : 오 세상에! 봐, 그게 바로 내가 두려웠던 거야!

Rachel : What? What's what you were afraid of?

Rachel : 뭐? 뭐가 두려웠건 건데?

Mindy : Okay, okay... when Barry was engaged to you, he and I...kind of... had a little thing on the side.

Mindy : 알았어, 알았어.. Barry가 너와 약혼 했던 당시에, Barry와 난 일종의... 작은 비밀스러운 일들이 있었어.

Rachel : What?

Rachel : 뭐라고?

Mindy : I know. I know, and when he proposed to me, everyone said "Don't do it, he's just gonna do to you what he did to Rachel," and now I feel so stupid.

Mindy : 알아. 알아, 그리고 Barry가 나한테 청혼 했을 때, 모두들 말했어. "받아들이지 마, Rachel한테 한 것처럼 너한테도 할 거야" 이제와 보니 내가 너무 멍청 했어. 

Rachel : Uh... Oh, Mindy, you are so stupid. Oh, we are both so stupid.

Rachel : 어.. 오 Mindy 넌 정말 멍청해. 내 말은 우리 둘 다 너무 멍청하다고.

Mindy : What do you mean?

Mindy : 무슨 말이야?

Rachel : Smell familiar?

Rachel 익숙한 냄새 아니야?

Mindy : Oh no.

Mindy : 오, 안돼.

Rachel : Oh, I am so sorry.

Rachel : 미안해.

Mindy : No me, I am so sorry...

Mindy : 아니, 내가 미안해...

 

 

자주 쓰이는 영어 회화 패턴/표현/단어:

 

come clean : (사실을) 털어놓다(=confess)

see : 만나다의 의미로 쓰일 경우 meet과 비슷하게 사용되며, 처음 본 사람 보다는 이미 알고 있는 사람 혹은 친근한 사람을 만날 때 사용하는 경우가 많습니다.
