'Peanuts'와 영어공부 #27 : Carousel: The Trouble with Charlie Brown

Lucy는 간혹 거리의 상담사가 되기도 하는데요. 

오늘은 Charlie Brown을 상담해 주려나 봐요.

제목의 Carousel은 회전목마 혹은 회전목마 형식의 기기를 뜻하는데요. Charlie의 문제가 회전목마처럼 끝없이 드러나는 것을 나타내는 제목이라고 할 수 있어요. 

그럼 Lucy가 Charlie Brown에게 어떤 문제가 있다고 판단할지 함께 볼까요?

Let's begin!

Lucy : You know what the whole trouble with you is, Charlie Brown?

Lucy : 네 문제가 뭔지 알아, Charlie Brown?
Charlie : No, and I don't want to know. Leave me alone.

Charlie : 아니, 알고 싶지 않아. 나 좀 내버려둬.
Lucy : The whole trouble with you is you won't listen to what the whole trouble with you is. 

Lucy : 네 모든 문제는 네 모든 문제가 뭔지 듣지 않는다는 거야. 
You need someone to point out your faults, Charlie Brown. 

넌 네 문제를 지적해줄 사람이 필요해, Charlie Brown.
It's for your own good, and I can do that. My system is unique.

다 너 좋으라고 하는 거야, 내가 해줄 수 있어. 내 시스템은 특별해.
Charlie : What's so unique about it?

Charlie : 뭐가 그렇게 특별한데?
Lucy : I've created a slideshow presentation.

First, Charlie Brown, we'll look at slides that deal with your many personality faults. 

우선, Charlie Brwon, 우린 너의 많은 성격적 결함을 다룬 슬라이드들을 볼 거야.
Some of them are quite shocking. Take this one, for instance.

그중 몇 가지는 꽤 충격적이야. 예를 들어 이걸 봐봐.
Easy, easy. This is only the beginning.

Next are slides of your inherited faults.

다음은 유전적 결함에 대한 슬라이드들이야.
In other words, these are faults over which you had no real control. 

다시 말해서, 이건 네가 실제로 통제할 수 없는 결함들이야.
These take about an hour or so.

Charlie : Oh, good grief! 

Charlie : 세상에!
Lucy : If it's any consolation, you rank above average in inherited faults.

Lucy : 위로가 될지 모르겠지만, 넌 유전적 결함에서 평균 이상의 순위를 차지하고 있어.
Charlie :  I stand consoled. 

Charlie : 참 위로가 되네.
Lucy : Now these slides show your biggest and most damaging faults. 

Lucy : 자 이 슬라이드는 너의 가장 큰 결점과 가장 치명적인 결점을 보여주는 거야.
Because of their importance, they will be shown in full color with dramatic music.

그 중요성 때문에 극적인 음악과 함께 풀 컬러로 보여줄 거야.
Charlie : Ah, turn it off! I can't stand it any longer! I can't stand it! 

Charlie : 아, 꺼줘! 더는 못 참겠어! 더는 못 참겠다고!
I've never gone through anything like that in my life. 

내 인생에서 이런 일은 처음이야.
I never knew I had so many faults. I've never been so miserable.

내 문제가 이렇게 많은 줄 몰랐어. 이렇게 비참한 건 처음이야.
Lucy : It's not so bad, Charlie Brown. Just wait until you get my bill.

Lucy : 그렇게 나쁜 건 아니야, Charlie Brown. 요금 청구서를 받을 때까지 기다려봐.
