오늘 배울 표현은 “more or less”라는 표현 입니다.

우리말로 하면 ‘많거나 혹은 적거나’ 정도의 뜻이 될 텐데요.  실제 영어표현에서는 어떤 뜻으로 쓰이는 지 알아보겠습니다.

“more or less”는 두가지의 비슷하면서 다른 뜻이 있는데요.

먼저 숫자와 관련된 문맥에서 쓰일 때는 “대략=about, approximately”의 뜻으로 사용 됩니다.

“대략”이라고 하면 ‘많을 수도(more)’ 혹은(or) ‘적을 수도(less)’ 있듯이 뭔가 딱 정해지지 않은 느낌이 있죠?

또 숫자와 관련이 없는 문맥에서는 “거의=almost”라는 의미로 사용 될 수 있습니다.

 ‘많을 수도(more)’ 혹은(or) ‘적을 수도(less)’ 있지만 100%에 가까운 그런 느낌이죠.
