'Friends'와 영어공부 #11 : Breezy

Monica와 Richard는 나이차이가 많은 커플이었습니다. (심지어 Richard는 Monica의 부모님과 친구 사이예요. 🙄)

Richard는 나이도 많고 이미 장성한 아이들도 있었기 때문에 더이상 아이를 갖고 싶어하지 않았고,

아이를 원했던 Monica와 의견차를 좁히지 못해 결국 헤어지게 됐는데요.

Richard를 잊지 못한 Monica가 결국 Richard의 자동응답기에 메세지를 남긴 모양이에요.

Monica : I called him.  I got his machine and I left him a message. But it’s okay. It’s okay. It’s okay. Because you know, it was like a casual, breezy message. It was breezy. Oh god, what if it wasn’t breezy?

Monica : 그 사람한테 전화했어. 자동응답기로 넘어가길래 메세지를 남겼는데 괜찮아. 괜찮아. 괜찮아. 가볍고 활기차게 말했거든. 유쾌한 메세지였어. 이런, 유쾌하지 않았으면 어쩌지?
Phoebe : How could it not be breezy? You know, cause you’re in such a breezy place.

Phoebe : 어떻게 유쾌하지 않을 수 있겠어? 이렇게  활기찬 곳에 있는데.
Monica : I got it. I will play my message for you guys and you can tell me if it’s breezy enough.

Monica : 이러면 되겠다. 내 목소리를 들려줄 테니까 유쾌한지 들어봐.
Joey : Monica, how are you gonna do that?

Joey : Monica, 그걸 어떻게 할건데?
Monica : I know the code to his answering machine.

Monica : 그 사람 자동응답기 비밀번호를 알거든.
Ross : Okay, Mon, I really don’t think this is the... Okay, you’re dialing. You are dialing.

Ross : Monica, 이건 별로 좋은 생각 같지 않은.. 벌써 걸었네. 걸었어.
Richard (on machine) : Hi. This is Richard. Please leave a message at the tone.

Richard (on machine) : Richard 입니다. 삐 소리가 나면 메세지를 남겨주세요.
Machine : You have two new messages.

Machine : 두개의 메세지가 있습니다.
Joey : Wow, what a cool job. You have two new messages...Please pass the pie.

Joey : 와우, 멋진 직업이구만. 두개의 메세지가 있습니다.. 파이를 넘겨주세요.
Monica (on machine): Hi, it’s Monica. I’m just checking in cause I got this message from you and I didn’t know if it was old or new or what. So, I’m just checking. So, let me know. Or don’t. Whatever. I’m breezy.

Monica (on machine) : 안녕하세요. Monica예요. 당신 메세지를 받아서 그러는데 그게 오래된건지 아닌지 몰라서요. 확인 좀 하려고 전화했어요. 알려주세요. 싫으면 말구요. 전 유쾌해요. 
Joey : Hey, you can’t say you’re breezy. That totally negates the breezy.

Joey : 유쾌하다고 말하면 안돼지. 그게 완전히 유쾌함을 없애버렸어.
Woman’s voice : Hola. It’s me. Yesterday was really fun. Call me about this weekend, okay?

Woman’s voice : Hola. 저예요. 어제 정말 즐거웠어요. 주말에 뭐할지 전화해줘요. 알겠죠?
Joey : Now she sounded breezy.

Joey : 자 이게 유쾌한거지.

 

 

자주 쓰이는 영어 회화 패턴/표현/단어:

 

breezy : 1. 산들바람이 부는 2. 경쾌한, 명랑한, 활기찬, 유쾌한, 가벼운

to get someone's machine : 전화를 연결할 때, 자동응답기로 넘어가는 것을 가리키는 표현.

요즘 사람들은 자동응답기를 사용하는 대신 "음성사서함(voicemail box)"을 더 많이 쓰므로 이제는 I got someone's voicemail box나 it went to voicemail이라고 말하는 것이 더 일반적.

I got it : 알겠다. 

how are you going to (gonna) : 어떻게 ...할 거예요?

at the tone : (자동응답기의 삐) 소리가 나면 

you can't say... : ...라고 하면 안돼지, ...라고 왜 했어. 

negates : 무효화하다, 효력없게 만들다, 부인하다
