'Peanuts'와 영어공부 #11 : Dusty Dancing

Patty가 연애에 관심이 생긴 모양이에요. 주말에 있을 Dance party에 누구와 가게 될까요? Patty가 즐거운 시간을 보낼 수 있을지 함께 볼까요?

Patty : You worry me, Chuck. You've never once had the courage to approach this little red-haired girl, yet you never stop talking about her. 

Patty: 걱정이다. Chuck, 넌 빨강머리소녀에게 다가갈 용기는 없으면서 그 애에 대해 말하는 건 멈추질 않네.
There are plenty of nice girls, Chuck, maybe even some closer than you think.

좋은 여자애들이 얼마나 많은데, Chuck, 어쩌면 네 생각보다 가까이 있을 수도 있어.   

Charlie : You could be right, I suppose. 

Charlie : 네 말이 맞을지도 몰라. 

Patty : I know I am. There's a dance at my school this weekend.

Patty : 내 말이 맞아. 이번 주말에 학교에서 댄스파티가 있어.

Charlie : Really? I have a friend who loves to dance. I'll give him your phone number.

Charlie : 진짜? 내 친구 중에 춤 좋아하는 애가 있어. 네 전화번호를 걔한테 알려 줄게.

Patty : You never understand anything, Chuck. 

Patty : 넌 아무것도 몰라, Chuck. 

Charlie :  I don't even understand what it is I don't understand. 

Charlie : 난 내가 뭘 모르는지도 모르겠어.

Patty : I wonder who my date will be. I hope he's a good dancer and a sharp dresser. 

Patty : 누가 내 데이트 상대가 될까? 춤도 잘 추고 옷도 잘 입었으면 좋겠어.

Pigpen : Hello.

Pigpen : 안녕.

Patty : This sure is some weird date Chuck got for me. He is polite, though.

이건 확실히 Chuck이 내게 이상한 데이트 상대를 소개 해 줬구만. 그래도 예의는 바르네 뭐.
You sure can dance, Pigpen. What's your sign Pigpen? And where did you go? 

너 확실히 춤을 잘 추는구나 Pigpen? 넌 별자리가 뭐야 Pigpen? 어디 간 거야?
That was the best dance ever, Pigpen. I've never had so much fun. Wow.

최고의 춤이었어, Pigpen. 이렇게 재밌었던 건 처음이야. Wow.

Marcie : Hello, who's calling? It's 3 a.m. 

Marcie : 여보세요, 누구세요? 지금 새벽 3시예요.  

Patty : I can't sleep. Marcy, I'm in love. 

Patty : 잠이 안와. Marcy, 난 사랑에 빠졌어.  

Marcie : I hope you'll be very happy, sir. 

Marcie : 행복하시길 바래요. 선생님.

Patty : I'm going to write him a love letter first thing tomorrow. 

Patty : 내일 아침 가장 먼저 걔한테 러브레트를 쓸거야. 

Marcie : You can't do that, sir. He has to make the first move. 

Marcie : 그러면 안 되죠 선생님. 걔가 먼저 대시 해야지. 

Patty : I don't go in for all that traditional stuff. If I like him, I should tell him, right Marcy?

Patty:난 그런 관습 같은 건 별로 안 따르는 편이야. 내가 걔를 좋아하면 걔한테 말 해야지, 그렇지 Marcy?
I don't know what to write. Maybe I should listen to Marcy and let him make the first move. 

뭐라고 써야할지 모르겠네. 어쩌면 Marcy 말대로 걔가 먼저 대시 하게 해야 할지도 몰라.
But then again, part of what makes me so charming is my go-get-em attitude. Oh, why can't romance be as easy as baseball?

하지만 내 차밍포인트는 적극적인 태도라고. 아 왜 연애는 야구처럼 쉽지 않은 걸까?
